True majesty will always grab your heart through your eyes

True majesty will always grab your heart through your eyes

What is the very best day you’ve ever had? Can you remember it clearly? Is there just one, or now, have they turned into many? How do you even begin to put best into the conversation, when it comes to days that you’ve lived? What if your best day, the very best day you ever had, you know it happened, because the feeling is there, but the memory, the crystal clear memory of it, has faded? What then becomes the very best day you’ve ever had? Does it go around and then become something that will happen, next?

In “Way of the Peaceful Warrior,” Dan Millman suggests that we experience the journey with a sense of being alive to the moment. What is the very best day you’ve ever had?

Mine, you ask?  Well it wouldn’t be fair to go through all those questions and then hold out on you, would it?  So lets you and I make a deal between us, O.K.?  Lets say that if you agree to let me know what you think about it, I’ll agree to tell you about it, hows that sound?  One thing to bear in mind, you’ll need to email me and ask.

The October challenge, find amazing parts of theology and
then each day bring one paragraph to you the reader about that
.
Heard an expert last evening talking about the languages,
said that only two languages were numbers based languages,
in other words, they used some sort of numbering system within
their language, Hebrew and Greek, the two languages of the Bible.
Interesting tidbit, theologically it certainly adds an interesting
touch to the theology we’re going to spend some paragraphs in,
which is eschatology, or, the end things. In both systems of
languages and cultural nuance, three symbolically stood for
complete, and so it’s easy to see why, three times three would
be, awesomely complete, wouldn’t that make sense? In the actions
of human living a pregnancy through takes nine months – so
the giving of life, is also culturally in the ambiance. Nines-
a ninth, a portion which is divinely appointed. Hmm, sort
of makes a person wonder at these Bible passages:

Lev 23:32 It [shall be] unto you a sabbath of rest,
and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth [day] of
the month at even, from even unto even,
shall ye celebrate your sabbath.

Mat 27:45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness
over all the land unto the ninth hour.
Mat 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried
with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?
that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Act 10:30 And Cornelius said, Four days
ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the
ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold,
a man stood before me in bright clothing,

Are we delusional, or, realistic, and, how would we know?
Pause momentarily and consider how difficult it is to
determine what truth is? What do you suppose Jesus would
respond if asked what the truth is? What do you suppose
is so troubling to us about it, you see, right now you are
saying; “I don’t have a problem with knowing what the truth
is.” And as you are saying that, you know full good and well
that no two people ever see the same thing in the same way,
do they? And so we come to the a very bizarre and yet odd
fact of what we are about, while we can get close to another
person, we never really know them, do we? Little wonder
then that Christ would say:
Mat 18:19 Again I say unto you, That if two of
you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that
they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my
Father which is in heaven.

The October challenge, find amazing parts of theology and
then each day bring one paragraph to you the reader about that
.
Sometimes when it is late at night, and a singular
message movie is on, like this evening, and this
movie, “The Postman,” a Kevin Kostner movie,
which while it will rankle some of my “thou
shalt not watch R rated movies” folks- I watch,
because it’s after the horror of apocalypse
message is a powerful one. Yes a person has to
look past some pretty shocking realities portrayed
in the movie, but isn’t that life, finally, really?
Here is what frightens me during those times,
the distinct possibility that death won’t greet me,
and the second coming will not have occurred,
but instead, the fragile and delicate threads which
bind this great nation of America together, will
come unraveled in such a way that leaves us
scattered, shattered, sheltered but without hope.
This is just one paragraph, but bear in mind that
theologically the end of time may happen a little
differently than what folks are commonly
talking about; and the average way you hear it
laid down, don’t make it so- and what is most
dangerous of all is pretending that we’re ready-
the most frightening fact of all is that we not
only aren’t prepared for most disasters, we
have actually deluded ourselves to believe
that we won’t survive them- see it’s horrible
when loved ones die, when all around you is death,
but what’s most horrible of all is when you live,
but you wish, you hadn’t- because you could have
been prepared, but you chose to bury your head
in the clouds instead of working the harshness
of the sands. Don’t take my word for it, just ask
anyone who lived through 9/11 – who got out
of the towers, ask anyone who got out of the
most insane Hurricane in recent human history-
or anyone who survived the countless horrific
disasters like Mt. St. Helens, or on a global
scale, where the ill preparedness accurately
accused the U.N. of their total neglect of the
need for it, ask anyone who survived India’s
horrific Tsunami’s- or China’s incredible floods
where the body count is still not clear- ask
them- if they’d prepare better today?

The October challenge, find amazing parts of theology and
then each day bring one paragraph to you the reader about that
.
Did you look at yourself in the mirror this morning?
How closely did you look? Let’s say, not all that closely,
why not, because, with few changes you’ve seen that
same face for your whole life, it changes very little
except with the years. You have come to
depend upon it. God, as a matter of theological
importance, can be depended upon, and here is the
interesting thing, it isn’t so much what God does
that can be depended upon, but what God
doesn’t do. You and I are alive today because God
chose to allow this world to continue to exist.
You and I are alive today because God made
a deliberate choice for us to exist,
and to continue to exist, and the simplest
of truths is, we have become used to being
able to depend upon God not to do the drastic
reality ending sort of things, haven’t we?
Yet here is the subtle theological point of the day, He can,
whenever He chooses to, such is what it means to be, God,
and yet we continue; and my suggestion to you is that this
theological concept become known between us as God’s grace.
It isn’t what God does -it is, what He graciously doesn’t do.
2Ti 1:9 Who hath saved us, and called [us]
with an holy calling, not according to our works,
but according to his own purpose and grace, which
was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Does a person under God own anything? Can we, God’s creation,

own any part of the created? Now while your shaking your

head at the idea of that even being a theological concept,

stop, for just a second and realize, it most assuredly is. You

see, you aren’t just a created being, inbreathed, with the very

life breath of God, you are, according to what is contained

in God’s word, the Bible, inheritors, which changes everything.

When the Bible states that all creation moans waiting for the

coming of the Lord, the strain should be felt in our lives, and

within that strain is the momentous truth of family ties.

Rom 8:17
And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs

with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him],

that we may be also glorified together.

The October challenge, find amazing parts of theology and
then each day bring one paragraph to you the reader about that.
What is it about God that leaves you either spellbound, or not?
Because one of the things that Jesus made plain in his ministry
was that you couldn’t sit on the fence with God; you either
believed in God and that He sent Jesus, or, you didn’t. There
is no halfway measure that will accomplish that belief point-
it’s either or. What makes that further interesting is that
so many want to hedge on it, they want to suggest shades of
knowing, partial knowledge, ask questions about what knowing
Him means, and therein is the rub, you either know Him, Jesus,
or you don’t, it actually is, just that simple. So Paul got
that into the hearts of his listeners by suggesting that they
not let the simple nature of that saving knowing trip them up.
1Pe 2:7 Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious:
but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the
builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
1Pe 2:8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence,
[even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient:
whereunto also they were appointed.

Here in day three we need to get more than personal, we need
to get intimate; deep, longing, desiring; the aspects of our
human nature that we equate to obsession, aren’t they? The
question is a haunting one, is God, obsessed with His creation?
Mind you in modern thinking, which is why this theological shot
is so much fun, as the rocket streaks past your bow, you hear
the faint calls of splashes in the distance, whence it is headed
for the deep. Mind you, today we all too often ask if we are
obsessed with God, and that’s a good theological question to put
forth, but my suggestion to you is, to smile, and laugh, and even
howl with delight, because the one who made you, created you, and
has you reading this is indeed obsessively in love with you.
Deu 10:15 Only the LORD had a delight
in thy fathers to love them,
and he chose their seed after
them, [even] you above all people,
as [it is] this day.

Nobody who knows me believes I can do this, but, each day in October
we will review one mind boggling theological concept in one paragraph.
That’s the part nobody can buy, they know I have a big mouth and write
like I speak. But here is what they don’t know, a person who is in
love, can do remarkable things, and this is written for you, and, I
love you. God, you know, is love. Consider that, the Bible doesn’t say
God knows about love, that would be obvious, or that God approves of love,
or even that God, who made us in His image, wonders about love when
it comes to humankind whom He created, but who apparently don’t get it.
No the Bible says, God is love, and that, is water to water, water is
water, dirt is dirt, electricity is shocking, but electricity is
electricity- so while you are trying to dig your head out of it,
let’s take this first mind boggling theological truth and absorb
it from this one paragraph, “God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

Let’s try a simple but profound experimental game,
why experimental, because we’re not sure what the
outcome will be, why a game, because in real life
the odds are that you would not have the game
conditions come up. Great, now that we have the
legal stuff out of the way, as the Pharisees would
say; let’s get down to it, as the Scribes would say.
Oh we almost forgot the Sadducees, who were odd
in their time, and certainly very hard to understand
in ours. According to one source, they haven’t existed
since 70 A.D..

On to the game, which has as an object, to
prove to you, why you matter. Both as a person,
and in particular, as a Christian. So let’s set
the ground rules. You will need a person to play
the part of the learner, and then you will play
the part of the teacher. For the learner the
script goes like this; “I don’t believe you,
because…” It doesn’t matter what they say,
any reason not to believe you will do. Now for
the part that makes this game resemble the need
which makes you matter, have the person who is
going to play the learner ties your hands behind
your back, with good strong rope- label the rope,
“things you have done wrong that others know
about.” Now you can’t move your hands, now put
good strong rope around your feet, label this
“sins that others believe I have committed.”
So now with no hands and no feet, you will
have trouble moving. Now have the learner
put duct tape over your mouth, so that
you can’t speak, label the duct tape; “the
excuses I’ve come up with not to share the
gospel.” Ok, now, the learner is free to
go- and you have to catch them, and convince
them that you know that Jesus can forgive them
of their sins. “Aw c’mon man, you know I
can’t do that, I can’t walk, because my feet
are bound, I can’t undo the knots, because
my hands are tied up, and I can’t yell because
my mouth is taped shut.” Of course we know
why – question, will the learner ever get
caught? Answer, no. Question, will the
learner ever hear the truth from you? Answer,
no. So there you go- with no hands, no
feet and no mouths, if you were God, what
would you do? It’s just a game folks….
Don’t miss the point here:

Mat 3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees
and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them,
O generation of vipers, who hath warned you
to flee from the wrath to come?

It’s a good question- and it is why, you matter, it is
only one of so many reasons why you matter, but it’s
a good one…
